Newsies is a "dance heavy" show and the dance audition will be a tad more advanced than usual. Please do not let this scare you. Not everyone will be in all the dances. But we did want to give you advance notice on what we will be teaching at the audition so you can practice ahead of time if you choose to. We will still learn this together step by step, slowly, at the dance auditon.

 Auditions for 6th - 8th grade students:

Vocal Auditions -
Thursday,(9/5) 3:30pm-6pm
(If students are trying out for sports please make your appt. after 5pm or on Friday)
Friday, (9/6) 12:30pm-4pm
(Vocal Audition appointments last approximately 5mins. students are not required to attend the full time period)

 Group Dance Audition -
Monday, September 9th
(see additional info below) 
6th Grade come from  3:15- 5pm
7th grade come from 3:15- 5:30pm
8th grade come from 3:15- 6pm
 **times are approxiamte but we try to stay on schedule**

Callbacks for Lead Characters (by invitation only)-
Wednesday, September 11th 3:15-6:00pm
Thursday, September 12th 3:15-6:00pm
Friday, Septemebr 13th 12:30-3:30pm(or until done) 


A Call Back list will be posted on Saturday 9/7. Please check this website anytime after 12 noon on September 7th to find out if you have been called back for a lead character(most callbacks will be handed out at your vocal Audition)

If you are called back please plan to come on both callback days, but a specific schedule will be posted. We will release kids early and let them call their parents to get them if they are not needed after a certain point.

(If there is a problem with the timing of auditions or you are not able to attend callbacks, please let us know asap so we can make the necessary arrangements).

The Cast List will be posted on the website as soon as it is completed.
Hopefully by Saturday 9/14 Afternoon. 

Auditions take place at Escondido Christian Church in the "Commons" Room

All participating 6th-8th graders will take part in the audition process in order to be cast in the show. This is all part of the learning process and we really try to make it fun! 

 

All students will sing their songs by themselves in front of the direction team only. The audition room is very positive and calm and we desire to make it a "no pressure" and "fun" environment.

 

Each student has the choice of singing a song from this show or another musical theater style song. Please bring your own accompaniment music. 

 

After auditions the casting process begins. Every student who auditions will be cast and no role is more important than another role. Every single character and person are important and necessary in a musical!! The direction team puts in many hours, and much prayer, determining who is best suited for each role.

 

Please bring your audition card & forms with you to your audition(these forms will be handed out at the parent meeting). Remember to attach a current headshot (can be a school photo or a simple printout) to your card. Photos will not be returned after the auditions.
